Craters Trail Run/Walk - 12km Course Info
The 12km Craters Trail Run/Walk uses some of the best trails Craters Mountain Bike Park has to offer. For the majority of your journey, you will be venturing through pine forest and a section of natives, all on single-trial bliss.
Starting from The Hub, you will head through the tunnel under Wairakei Drive into the Craters Mountain Bike Park onto Tourist Trap, making your way to the Craters carpark. The course is about to get spicey as you venture down Spyce Girls to Connection. Up a short section of gravel road and you’ll hit the first aid station before entering Mr & Mrs, arguably the best trail in the park in which you will find a secret hidden gem.
Back to Connection, then wind your way up Walter’s Wiggles. Then onto Scraggs you can chose to run/walk on the various man-made features or avoid the obstacles all together. At the exit of Scraggs you will get to the second aid station before making your way to the finish via Log Out and Zip.

COURSE MARKINGS
For the majority of the course, the tracks to follow are well established and obvious. However, when you need to turn off those tracks, you must follow all course signs and directions. Please follow the directions of marshals on course too.
The course is marked with blue arrows showing the direction to run/walk and blue ribbons hanging from trees along your route. You will come across Course Split Ahead signs, followed by your distance (12km) with an arrow indicating which way you are to go. Make sure you follow the correct one! You will also see pieces of ribbon on the ground crossing a track/trail, do not cross these.
AID STATIONS
The aid stations on course will provide water, R-Line, bananas, chips, and lollies.
The 12km course has two aid stations at 4.4km and 9.7km.
FIRST AID
The course will have roving marshals and first aid. If you come across an injured person check they are ok, send someone forward to the next marshal for help. All marshals are in radio/phone contact with the Course Manager and medics from PEAK Safety. Anyone unable to finish the course will be transported back to the finish by Total Sport course crew.
First Aid is also provided by Peak Safety at the finish line.

We couldn’t do it without these absolute legends!
It’s really simple, these events don’t happen without the commitment and support of a whole bunch of cool people, and organisations that share the vision of what we are trying to achieve. We are so grateful to those who got on board, and believe, like we do, the benefits of getting people into the outdoors and nature - and for their support of Total Sport. Some of these partners have been with us for a very long time, and feel like family, and some are newbies. Please support them wherever you can, as their support enables us to do what we do, which means you get to do what you love to do - everyone wins!!
